Cooking Instructions:
* Load the Pitcher: Place the raw ground pork, sweet potato pieces, celery stalks, butter, sesame oil, pinch of salt, and water into the Joyoung heating blender pitcher.
* Start the Cycle: Select 浓汤 (Thick Soup / Chowder) mode and press 启动/取消 (Start). Allow the machine to fully complete its heating, cooking, and initial blending cycle (~30–35 minutes).
* Add Nutritional Milk: Once the cooking cycle completes and stops heating, carefully open the lid. Pour in the prepared cup of Nutren Milk (8 scoops).
* Pulse to Blend: Press 搅拌 (Pulse / Blend) for 10–15 seconds until the soup is completely smooth and uniformly creamy.
* Serve: Pour into a bowl, let it cool to a safe, comfortable feeding temperature, and serve.
(Chef's Note: Always add nutritional formula powders at the very end after the heating process finishes. Direct boiling can scorch formula on the heating plate and degrade sensitive micronutrients.)
Why This Method Works: Our Caregiving Story
Finding ways to maintain healthy weight and proper nutrition for aging loved ones can be one of the toughest challenges of caregiving.
My grandma is 88 years old and in the early stages of age-related dementia. Back in June, her weight dropped down to 44 kg (from 46 kg), and keeping her nourished became a daily worry. Chewing solid foods had become exhausting for her—especially meat and fibrous vegetables. When offered standard solid meals, she would often chew on meat or greens just to extract the juices and leave the rest behind. Meals dragged on for hours without her getting the actual calories or protein she needed.
Another big hurdle was visual presentation. Due to her cognitive changes, she became very sensitive to how food looked. If she spotted dark specks—like chopped basil, leeks, or visible herb flakes—she would pick them out, push them away, or hesitate to eat altogether, worrying that something was "dirty" or foreign.
Switching to smooth, uniform, hot-blended meals completely changed our routine:
* Clean, Uniform Appearance: Because every ingredient is cooked and fully pureed together, the final soup has a vibrant, golden-orange hue without any dark specks or visible chunks to cause hesitation.
* Effortless to Eat: Without the fatigue of chewing tough meat or stringy celery fibers, she is able to swallow comfortably and finish her entire bowl down to the very last drop.
* Calorie Density in Small Volumes: By incorporating healthy fats (butter and sesame oil), complex carbohydrates (sweet potato), animal protein (pork), and medical-grade nutritional formula (Nutren Milk), a single bowl provides over 500 clean calories and 18g of protein.
The Results
Since adopting this pureed cooking routine, her weight steadily increased from 44 kg to 47.5 kg, and she looks significantly healthier, more energetic, and well-nourished.
For anyone caring for an elderly parent or grandparent dealing with chewing difficulties, poor appetite, or dementia-related food hesitations, a reliable heating blender combined with balanced, high-calorie whole-food recipes can make mealtime peaceful and nourishing once again.
